  • Insurance Coverage

I see this topic being discussed on various forums and social media platforms, so its probably a good idea to repeat it here.

Insurance coverage, liability, and legal requirement can vary significantly from state to state, and often people do not fully understand the limits of their own policy. If you have a question, always reach out to a licensed insurance agent, even it its not who you currently have a policy with.

For those of you saying your trailer is covered under your car insurance policy - please be careful and verify with your agent as to what extents it is actually covered.

It MAY be covered under the 'liability' portion of your policy while you're towing it - meaning your insurance company will cover any vehicle or property damages cause BY the trailer.

However, its very unlikely that the trailer itself is automatically covered under the 'comprehensive' portion of the policy - meaning you will be paying out-of-pocket to repair the trailer yourself (if the accident is your fault).

As far as homeowners policy coverage - it MAY be covered from theft and damage while on the insured property - but that does not cover it while traveling.

Once again, always reach out to a licensed insurance agent, even it its not who you currently have a policy with.
