WI-FI extenders: Do they work? Open discussion

WI-FI extenders Do they work, which one do you use.

I am considering a WI-FI extender, I am curious if they actually work and what experiences you all have with them.

My trailer has a smart TV. I typically stay at COE, Stater Park and the occasional KOA. Many offer WI-FI and I have found if I'm not right on top of theirs, I have issues.

I don't know a whole lot about the different types, but I bought one for home use. The type I got, at the suggestion of my 32 year old son, extends the range and signal to the back porch and patio. However, it creates a different router name than the main router. like if the main router is named MAINROUTER, the extender is MAINROUTEREXT. This means if I got out of the main router (or the extender) I need to connect to the one that still has a signal. This is no problem at home due to my placement of the router and extender, but could be problematic or even useless for a camper. I'd suggest finding one that simply boosts the signal.
