In a recent communique with Zach about chapter decals, he reminded me about the new 3' x 5' chapter banners. I was in the process of making a banner "fill in" and also wanted to get the consensus of the LSC members to see if they'd be interested in one. The majority seem to be happy with our personal site banners, but one might get ordered in the future...who knows.
So...what's my banner fill in, you ask? As I've mentioned in other threads, I play with different woodworking and craft projects as ideas/concepts hit me. The latest is a spirit lantern for our chapter, pics to follow, and a 1/8" luanne paneled, PMF'd carrying case.
The main lantern frame is 1/4" x 1 1/2" x (whatever) lengths of poplar lathes. The base and top are three different patterns of edge and Crown Moulding. The lantern's side panels are white bed sheet sections glued to the inside of each side after staining. It can (and should!) be lit with an led light. I did not vent it for candles or any other type of flame light to go for safety and burn ban compliance.
The spirit part comes in with LSC members carefully drawing an outline of their camper on the side panels of the lantern or on the carrying case. Not so artsy? They can sign the case. Some LSC members have their own travel video channels and they are going to stick their logo stickers on the case.
I premiered the spirit lantern at the 5 - 7 Sep 2025 Gathering at Lake Whitney state park. It was well received and we have six camper outlines drawn so far and the promise of two video channel stickers.
