  • Teardrop from small car shell.

I'm well along with the build of my abnormal teardrop.
I did this once before, back in '08 during the recession. I had a one-man body shop, and little work... and I had a 95 Neon needing a new engine... got a parts car, yanked the engine, and then thought--teardrop!
So, with lots of time, I built one... painted it to match the Neon Driver... and wife & I camped out of quite a few times... later sold it.

In 2013, I bought a '58 Anglia to resto-mod, and later got a '59 Prefect for parts. When Anglia was pretty much done, started the Prefect/teardrop project.
Shelved in 2022, as wife's health started a slow decline... after her passing in '25, I restarted. Now it's functional, but a little rough-looking.
A few pics, then. [Build journal on tnttt.com]

Yesterday, I couldn't get this continuation-post to load... or, more precisely, for pictures to load with it...........

2nd Phase of the work... plywood floor front-to-back... framed & added a shelf just below the rear edge of the trunk opening, which gives me about a foot above the shelf [small microwave & coffee-maker, plus other galley stuff] and about a foot below for my lower legs when sleeping.
I ran 110 cord from the re-made fuel fill over to a fused power strip in the galley, and to a 12V converter to power LED lights & roof vent & eventually a stereo... put in a on-off-on switch so the 12V comes from either the converter, or from a solar-charged batter, but never accidentally both.
Re-formed the rear corners to swap out the old English Ford taillights, and picked up '70 Karmen Ghia ones to replace them. [bigger lenses, easier parts should they get busted]
Recently added some thin pad & carpet, and a dimmable LED reading light... and fabricated an insulated headliner................
Final add of recent work... an interior 110V block [with USB ports etc] and a 12V reading light.

        Yet another post/update.

I decided I really needed to try out camping this fall, in the mild weather a couple days ago, and so I hauled the teardrop 5 miles up the road to a local state park with lots of in-the-trees spots... picked one with electricity... and set up.

In my last-minute rush to go, I forgot a number of things, but the basics all worked well.

I now have a list of things to add to it in future, for avoiding some nuisances this time, and I'm satisfied that the essentials work.

Note: with the daylight hours getting shorter, it was very nice, and quite comfortable, to sit inside near the LED light and read a book.
